The Shimano CS-5700 105 10-Speed Cassette features a nickel-plated finish that is corrosion resistant and its largest sprockets are mounted on a lightweight alloy carrier to reduce the weight without reducing rigidity. Each sprocket is cut away and drilled to further reduce weight, creating a smooth shift even under a load.

The inner outer plate, designed for better contact with gear teeth, allows smooth shifting even under high load conditions. In addition, the chain has achieved a pedalling efficiency of 0.6% higher.

In order to obtain good gear shifting performance, this chain has a forward side and a reverse side, and the sides are marked so that the chain will face the correct way when installed.
